Freedom of expression and media crucial to tackling climate crisis: International Freedom of Expression Rapporteurs

3 May, 2024 – To mark International Press Freedom Day, during the Global Conference organised by UNESCO in Santiago de Chile, freedom of expression mandate holders of the United Nations, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) issued a Joint Declaration on the Climate Crisis and Freedom of Expression.

Electoral year 2024: UN experts call for strengthening democracy and reversing global erosion of human rights

30 April 2024 – UN experts urged today authorities in dozens of countries holding elections this year to uphold and protect the rights to vote and to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association. They said these rights are threatened by democratic regression, the rise of authoritarianism worldwide and shrinking civic spaces.
