Irene Khan was interviewed on 26 October 2023 by Al Jazeera during its programme Inside Story about the threats to journalists living and working in Gaza. As of October 26, CPJ’s preliminary investigations showed at least 27 journalists were among more than 7,000 dead on both sides since the war began on October 7. The family of Al Jazeera’s Gaza bureau chief Wael Al-Dahdouh was killed on Wednesday in an Israeli air raid.
Irene spoke to presenter Bernard Smith along with Jodie Ginsberg, President of the Committee to Protect Journalists, a non-profit organisation that promotes media freedom and defends the rights of journalists and Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative.
