In an interview with Al Jazeera, Irene Khan, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom of opinion and expression, said:

“What the Israeli forces are doing is leading to indiscriminate and massive killing of civilians including journalists. There needs to be strong accountability and political measures to bring about a ceasefire.” She made the remarks after an Israeli airstrike killed two Palestinian journalists including Hamza al-Dahdouh, an Al Jazeera journalist and cameraman in southern Gaza on 7 January. Attacks against journalists need to be given priority in terms of investigation. She called on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to urgently look into the war crimes that are taking place in Gaza.
